Cabo San Lucas Fishing Tournaments

Cabo San Lucas is home to some of the largest, and richest, sportfishing tournaments on the globe, including three spectacular tourneys presented by Bisbee’s: the East Cape Offshore Tournament, the Los Cabos Offshore Tournament, and Bisbee’s Black and Blue – the grand-daddy of all Marlin tournaments. Other big money tourneys include the Los Cabos Billfish Tournament, the International Governor’s Cup Tournament, the Western Outdoor News Tuna Jackpot, the Stars and Stripes Fishing and Golf Tournament, the World Championship Billfish Release Tournament and even the prestigious IGFA Offshore World Championship.

The Bisbee’s Black and Blue Marlin Jackpot was the top-ranked big money billfish tournament as listed in Marlin Magazine’s May 2009 issue. Established back in 1982, this tourney has awarded more than four million dollars in a single tournament. Bisbee’s Black and Blue has given out the largest single prize ever to a single boat – more than $3.9 million in 2006. It is no wonder that Cabo San Lucas has earned the nickname, “The Marlin Capital of the World.”

Why are so many of these tournaments held in Cabo? – because gamefishing in this region where the fathomless cold-water currents of the Pacific Ocean meet the balmy water of the Sea of Cortez, creating ideal conditions to attract trophy Billfish (including Black, Blue and Striped Marlin), Dorado (also known as Mahi Mahi or Dolphin Fish), Wahoo, and varieties of Tuna (including Yellowfin, Yellowtail, Bluefin and Bigeye, among others).
